About

The club was formed to satisfy the needs of the community living to the southwest of Providence, including Cranston, Warwick, West Warwick, Coventry, East and West Greenwich. Rhode Island has very few chess clubs when compared to neighboring states, and this usually means that players have to drive over 20 miles, even into Massachusetts, for good alternatives.

We had our first meeting February 9, 2005. Three players came the first night, but we have quickly grown. More than a hundred different people have shown up to our meetings, many of them becoming members.  We now have members who reside from as far south as Block Island, Narragansett and North Kingstown to as far north and east as Massachusetts.

We are a non-profit organization open to the entire community. Come and join us for casual games, game analysis, informal playing lessons, as well as nationally rated Quick and Standard games, for US Chess Federation members.

We meet weekly for casual games, analysis, and USCF rated tournament games. We also organize unrated tournaments with flexible formats depending on interest. There are small monthly prizes for the top players and the best performers in each tournament.

We have a limited number of chess sets and clocks; please bring your own if you have any. We will provide score sheets for you to record your game, if you want to.
